[鼓声合唱版] Over the Hills and Far Away 越过高山去往远方
《越过高山去往远方》是一首经典的英格兰民歌和征兵歌曲，最早可以追溯到17世纪末，这一版本的填词最早出现在英格兰文学家Thomas d'Urfey编撰的歌集Wit and Mirth: Or Pills to Purge Melancholy（其书编撰于1698-1720年间，初为四卷，至1719年拓至六卷，这一填词收录于第五卷），题作The Recruiting Officer/The Merry Volunteers，以我们非常熟悉的“Hark! now the Drums beat up again”起头，是一首征兵用的宣传歌曲，具体收录年份不详，此书现下留存下来的版本中，收录这一填词的版本是1707年的（西班牙王位战争时期）。
1706年George Farquhar在他的剧作中The Recruiting Officer的歌曲，以“Our 'prentice Tom may now refuse”起头，其内容与我们上面提到这一版本的后面几段十分相近，不过它们间的具体关系尚未被查明。
这一曲调与John Gay的著名歌剧The Beggar’s Opera也颇有渊源，The Beggar’s Opera 是一部民谣歌剧（ballad opera），其中歌曲的曲调来自于法兰西、英格兰、爱尔兰、苏格兰的各种古代与“当代”（相对于当时）歌谣，Thomas d'Urfey收集的歌谣对John Gay创作起了很大帮助：在整部剧的68首歌曲，足有10首的曲调都是前者收集的，这也包括Over the hills and far away这一曲调，John Gay的填词如下：
